Alpha

The Alpha CourseAn ALPHA course is starting on Wednesday 1st September at 7pm in Christ Church.

Alpha is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed and friendly setting. The course lasts for 11 weeks. Each meeting begins with light refreshments and a general chat followed by a DVD, after which there is opportunity for discussion, when any questions may be asked. The course is a Parish event and all are welcome to come along or to bring someone.

No pressure is put on anyone and you can say as much or as little as you wish.

It is low-key, friendly and fun. Christ Church and St Geroge's offer this together. Please contact Margaret on 01642 465167 or the church office on 01642 381128 if you wish to join us. We look forward to seeing you.

Here's one person's exerience of a previous Alpha course held at Christ Church and St. George's.

Dear ALPHA Team,

I just wanted to drop you a line to express my thanks for your loving support and prayers that helped me to enjoy the ALPHA Course. I have benefited greatly from the receiving of the Holy Spirit on our weekend session. I felt we had a very open and willing team of lovely people.

My last experience of church was some time ago when I was living with my Grandad. Every Sunday morning we would get up early and go to his allotment and gather a stock of vegetables for our Sunday lunch. We would then put on our Sunday best and walk to our church. The service was a boring and static affair, however, I got a real feeling that I was cleansed, but sadly by the time we arrived home the feeling had worn off.

After a failed marriage, job loss and loss of home I also lost my faith. My life changed around and gave me a new wife, new home and a better outlook on life but my faith did not return until I was introduced to the ALPHA Course where almost immediately I felt reconciled to God and experienced unity among the people of God.

During the course we watched a DVD about Christ, it's heady stuff but it was so simple to understand and so inspiring. Learning of Christ was new and exciting; it was wondrous and believable and dramatically gave me a new set of beliefs.

Now seemingly armed with this new supernatural force, I feel ready to give back to life something that's helped shape me.

At what can best be described as the Holy Spirit Makeover Weekend I was so fulfilled, with such a fantastic feeling, I would like to share it with the world. It's no secret but I cannot find a word to explain this experience.

Kind regards and God Bless you all

John
